Job Description:

Perform a variety of reception, scheduling and registration duties to provide effective customer service to patients. Responsible for scheduling all patient testing appointments for orders received from referring provider. Ensures order contains reason for test, signature, records if required, prior authorization and meets medical necessity. Request additional information if required. Advises patients in cost of testing including co-pay, co-insurance deductible and advises in discounts for pre-pay attempting to collect pre-appointment. Perform other related duties as required. Report to Assistant Director, Cardiac Diagnostic Center . RESPONSIBILITIES: -- Greet patients in polite, prompt and helpful manner, and provide instructions and/or directions as necessary. -- Answers department phones assisting and directing the caller appropriately -- At check-in verify and update patient registration data, copies insurance cards and identification; verifies identity per hospital policy. -- Collects appropriate payment and obtain necessary signatures. Informs the appropriate department of patient arrival. -- Receives return of equipment, delivery of supplies and otherwise assists business visitors to the department -- Advises patient on process for obtaining medical records for self or other provider per hospital policy -- Schedules, reschedules testing obtaining necessary demographic, insurance and appointment information. Assurance appointment given is within the prior authorization period, if one was needed. -- Print and send form letters to the referring provider -- Sends confirmation letter to patient with pre-test instructions and the appointment date and time, if time allows -- Tracks no show and canceled appointment per protocol following procedure of ordering provider notification and commenting in system -- Gives pre-test instructions as indicated; including medication tapers in conjunction with the nurse




  • Proficiently uses and maintains auditlogix order manager, medical necessity and insurance verification functions.




    -- Respond to calls from physician's offices, hospitals and patients.




    • Comply with HIPPA confidentiality requirements.









      • Maintain an effective professional, customer service oriented working relationship with other employees, professional and service staff, customers and clients, patients, families and physicians, etc.









        • Participates as a preceptor in the training of co-workers, as requested









          • Perform all other duties as assigned.




            REQUIREMENTS:




            • High School education or equivalent
            • 2 year medical office experience









              • Strong customer service skills; ability to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, staff, visitors/others. Excellent phone skills required.









                • Ability to exercise good judgment, time management and organizational skills and follow appropriate procedures when setting priorities and handling stressful situations.









                  • Requires knowledge and use of reference materials as provided in a multi-faceted environment i.e., manuals, memos, policies, procedures, etc.









                    • Requires the accessing of information from many sources, systems, locations and media.









                      • Working knowledge of medical terminology as well as medical service coding









                        • General understanding of insurances, prior auth, medical necessity









                          • Must have excellent computer skills.









                            • Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility.









                              • Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks.
