Job Description:

SUMMARY

Provide high quality neonatal and inpatient pediatric care to infants, children, and adolescents under the responsibility of the supervising physician. *

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform neonatal and pediatric histories and physical examinations; interpret diagnostic lab test and x-ray results.

Coordinate patient care with team members, other staff, community agencies and a wide variety of providers.

Provides comprehensive care to infants and children under the supervision of the Attending Physician as directed and by established protocols.. Perform necessary neonatal and pediatric procedures in alignment with scope and privileges.

Participate in teaching and learning in an integrated academic model. Document clearly and accurately within the medical record and satisfy medical record requirements. Practice preventive health care through patient and family education and child health advocacy.

Attend high risk deliveries and initiate if required, newborn resuscitation, stabilization and ongoing critical care of sick newborns. Provides comprehensive care to neonates under the supervision of the Attending Physician as directed and by established protocols. Coordinate and execute patient care plans on all neonatal and pediatric patients. Manage care for high risk newborns and their families in emergency and non-emergency situations. Perform special procedures, as indicated, in accordance with approved protocols. Procedures include: lumbar puncture, chest tube or needle thoracotomy/evaluation of pneumothorax, endotracheal intubation, and umbilical vessel catheterization.

Provide consultative services to pediatric patients in the Emergency Department as requested by E.D. physicians.

Participate on the pediatric code team. Provide previously proctored technical skills when required, in both neonatal and pediatric settings.

Participate in peer review, development and consultation. Provide education, support and training as needed for other allied Team Pediatric personnel/students. Participate in departmental conferences/committees. Participate in special initiatives, programs and services as assigned. Complete billing in an accurate and timely manner.

Demonstrate knowledge of population-specific differences and needs in specific patient populations from neonate through adolescence. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers.

Demonstrate support for mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the CT Children's standards.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Knowledge of common neonatal and pediatric conditions as per level of training and experience.

Knowledge of methods to self-educate to fill gaps in clinical knowledge required for patient care.

ABILITY TO

Work independently. Ability to manage complex family issues and provide patient/family teaching and discharge planning. Ability to work effectively with an electronic health record.

Willing to work flexible hours/days to meet the needs of patients and programs and services.

  • Hold a baccalaureate or higher degree in any field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
  • Successful graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Registered and Certified Physician Assistant Physician Assistant program
  • MSP -- Medical Staff Privileges -- Eligible for Medical Staff Privileges at Connecticut Children's Medical Center and any other institutions at which this position will provide patient care (privileges must in effect upon hire date)
  • Bilingual and bicultural in English and Spanish preferred.
